Our Approach to Raising German Shepherds
At Southern Comfort Shepherds, raising German Shepherds is not simply what we do — it’s who we are as a family.
For more than 20 years, Maree has brought patience, steadiness, and genuine care to every dog she’s raised. That calm, intentional approach shapes every part of our program — from how our dogs are cared for, to how we support new families, to how each puppy enters the world with thoughtful, consistent guidance.
Our dogs are raised alongside us in daily life. They walk the property, hike the trails, train with us, and rest with us. Ranger, Rain, Thor, Bella, Alita and Katara are not kennel dogs — they are trusted companions who live in our home and are part of the rhythm of our family.
When a litter arrives, families are invited to follow each puppy’s journey through our transparent weekly “Puppy Watch” videos. From early socialization to temperament development and foundational training, every milestone is shared openly, giving families clarity, confidence, and peace of mind throughout the process.
For us, this isn’t a business.
This is family.

Our dogs live daily life with us — hiking, training, bonding, and living together. This hands-on upbringing builds calm confidence, trust, and deep loyalty.

Follow your puppy’s development through weekly videos from Weeks 3 through 8 — highlighting socialization, temperament growth, and early foundations.

Our focus is on steady temperaments, healthy development, and intentional breeding — guided by patience, experience, and respect for each dog.

We breed German Shepherds with a simple intention: to raise dogs with sound structure, calm minds, and steady temperaments.
Our lines come from proven DDR bloodlines, selected for stability, working heritage, and heart.
Every puppy is raised with individual attention from birth through eight weeks — held, nurtured, monitored, and guided gently. Our foundation dogs are health tested, genetically clear, and woven into our daily lives in every meaningful way.
When you bring home a Southern Comfort Shepherd puppy, you’re not simply adding a dog — you’re joining our extended family.
Before submitting your inquiry, please explore our Breeding Program, Shepherd FAQs, and Meet Our Dogs pages. This helps ensure our DDR German Shepherd puppies are a great fit for your home and lifestyle.
Each litter pairing has a waiting list for males and females.
We require a quick phone conversation to be added to our lists.
We do not take deposits upfront.
A $500 deposit reserves your puppy pick position one week after their birth, once we confirm litter health and number of puppies.

The Paw Club is our dogs’ private playground — part fun, part adventure park, and all heart. Designed so our German Shepherds can run, climb, explore, and just be dogs, it’s the kind of place you dream of building as a kid. The Paw Club lives in our dogs’ hearts, and in the memories they make here with the families who come to visit.
If you can picture your future puppy playing here with us, we’d be honored to talk with you about our upcoming litters.
